The work "Linajes y Blasones de Galicia", by Father Crespo, where the heraldry and the history of the family name Toiriz appears, is the most important treatise of the heraldry of Galicia (Spain), and was published three hundred years after the appearance of the posthumous "Nobiliario, Armas y Triunfos de Galicia", by Father Felipe de la Gandara. Its author Father Crespo Pozo, had for his investigations, vigils and costly walks that were rewarded with the kind collaboration of Nobles as the Dukes of Medinaceli facilitating the archive of the Grand Casa Marquesal de Camarasa, etc. All this resulted in a plurality of sources of consultation that make the scholarly work, encyclopedic and illustrative in Galician heraldry. This work collects, as we have already said, the history and heraldry of family Toiriz so the Toiriz or they are Galician or linked in some of their branches to Galicia.

One of the most distinctive qualities of heraldry is the use of a limited palette of colours and patterns, usually referred to as tinctures. These are divided into three categories, known as metals, colours, and furs.

Next we are going to see the meanings of three tinctures:

1) ARGENT (Silver): Purity, Integrity, Obedience, Firmness, Surveillance, Eloquence and Expiration.

2) OR (Gold): Nobility, Magnanimity, Wealth, Power, Light, Constancy and Wisdom.

3) AZURE: Blue color that symbolizes Justice, Zeal, Truth, Loyalty, Charity and Beauty.

Next lets look at the characteristics of some figures that we can find in heraldry and crests:

* WOLVES: The Wolves are a symbol of a Constant Heart that suffers the calamities of war and siege with generous spirit; but when the time comes to fight in the open field, he fiercely fights, without giving his enemy a barracks.

* SCEPTER: The Scepter represents Dignity.

* ANJOU: The Chief of Anjou, belonging to Italian heraldry, represents a political alliance with the Welf party (derived from Welf, Duke of Bavaria) who were loyal to the Pope.

* CHECKY: The Checky symbolizes Military Art, for which reason it is usually awarded to soldiers who have exposed their lives in combat.

* IVY: The Ivy symbolizes Love Bond and also Triumph.

* WALL: The Wall represents the Noble Heart of the Knight, in which no betrayal or disloyalty can enter.

* PEACOCK: The Peacock, by its head denotes Prudence; for his chest, of gold and sapphire, Loyalty, Fidelity and Zeal; in the hidden and submissive of his steps, Secret, and in the terribly out of tune voice of his singing, Terror of enemies.

* CRESCENT: The Crescent, of oriental origin, symbolizes Victory against the darkness of slander, and Emulations against inconstancy and fickleness.
