The work "Linajes y Blasones de Galicia", by Father Crespo, where the heraldry and the history of the family name Legaspe appears, is the most important treatise of the heraldry of Galicia (Spain), and was published three hundred years after the appearance of the posthumous "Nobiliario, Armas y Triunfos de Galicia", by Father Felipe de la Gandara. Its author Father Crespo Pozo, had for his investigations, vigils and costly walks that were rewarded with the kind collaboration of Nobles as the Dukes of Medinaceli facilitating the archive of the Grand Casa Marquesal de Camarasa, etc. All this resulted in a plurality of sources of consultation that make the scholarly work, encyclopedic and illustrative in Galician heraldry. This work collects, as we have already said, the history and heraldry of family Legaspe so the Legaspe or they are Galician or linked in some of their branches to Galicia.

One of the most distinctive qualities of heraldry is the use of a limited palette of colours and patterns, usually referred to as tinctures. These are divided into three categories, known as metals, colours, and furs.

Next we are going to see the meanings of three tinctures:

1) PURPLE: Justice, Wit, Truth, Greatness, Wisdom and Love; those who wear this color are obliged to defend the Prince defending ecclesiastical people.

2) SABLE: Black color that symbolizes Prudence, Sadness, Rigor, Honesty and Obedience.

3) GULES: Red color that symbolizes Strength, Victory, Daring and Highness.

Next lets look at the characteristics of some figures that we can find in heraldry and crests:

* STAG: The Stag symbolizes Effortless Courage, which draws and recovers energy even on the most adverse occasions.

* CHEVRON: The Chevron symbolizes the boots and spurs, and for this reason it was granted as an adornment of the shield to the Knight who was wounded from the combat in his legs.

* FUSIL: The Fusil is a symbol of Righteousness, Prudence and Equity and of the conveniences achieved through these virtues; it serves as a hieroglyph for those who gathered many goods using lawful and upright means.

* ARROW: The Fess represents Readiness (for battle); if depicted with a cross, represents an affliction.

* ERMINE: The Ermines symbolize Purity and Fidelity placed at the service of the Prince.

* MERMAID: The Mermaid is a symbol of Eloquence and Seduction.

* TREE: The Tree is a symbol of Ancient and Clarified Nobility.

* WHEEL: The Wheels symbolize Speed in carrying out the most arduous undertakings. They are also a symbol of Fortune, Favor and Inconstancy.
