The work "Linajes y Blasones de Galicia", by Father Crespo, where the heraldry and the history of the family name Dorantes appears, is the most important treatise of the heraldry of Galicia (Spain), and was published three hundred years after the appearance of the posthumous "Nobiliario, Armas y Triunfos de Galicia", by Father Felipe de la Gandara. Its author Father Crespo Pozo, had for his investigations, vigils and costly walks that were rewarded with the kind collaboration of Nobles as the Dukes of Medinaceli facilitating the archive of the Grand Casa Marquesal de Camarasa, etc. All this resulted in a plurality of sources of consultation that make the scholarly work, encyclopedic and illustrative in Galician heraldry. This work collects, as we have already said, the history and heraldry of family Dorantes so the Dorantes or they are Galician or linked in some of their branches to Galicia.

One of the most distinctive qualities of heraldry is the use of a limited palette of colours and patterns, usually referred to as tinctures. These are divided into three categories, known as metals, colours, and furs.

Next we are going to see the meanings of three tinctures:

1) AZURE: Blue color that symbolizes Justice, Zeal, Truth, Loyalty, Charity and Beauty.

3) GULES: Red color that symbolizes Strength, Victory, Daring and Highness.

* CRICKET: The Cricket is a symbol of the Irresolute and Inconstant Lover.

* YOKE: The Yoke symbolizes Unity.

* HAWK: The Hawk symbolizes Noble and Strong chest in companies of honor, which fails to achieve them faints of shame.

* WOLF: The Wolf is a symbol of a Constant Heart that suffers the calamities of war and siege with generous spirit; but when the time comes to fight in the open field, he fiercely fights, without giving his enemy a barracks.

* FESS: The Fess represents the Noble Heart of the Knight, into which no betrayal or disloyalty can enter.

* CABRIO: The Cabrio symbolizes the boots and spurs, and for this reason it was granted as an adornment of the shield to the Knight who was wounded from the combat in his legs.

* DOG: The Dog is a symbol of Faithful Vassal.

* PINE: The Pine, due to its elevation, is a symbol of Noble and enlightened Thoughts and due to its resinous nature, suitable for burning, of a Fiery Heart in avenging family outrages.
