The work "Linajes y Blasones de Galicia", by Father Crespo, where the heraldry and the history of the family name Cardemil appears, is the most important treatise of the heraldry of Galicia (Spain), and was published three hundred years after the appearance of the posthumous "Nobiliario, Armas y Triunfos de Galicia", by Father Felipe de la Gandara. Its author Father Crespo Pozo, had for his investigations, vigils and costly walks that were rewarded with the kind collaboration of Nobles as the Dukes of Medinaceli facilitating the archive of the Grand Casa Marquesal de Camarasa, etc. All this resulted in a plurality of sources of consultation that make the scholarly work, encyclopedic and illustrative in Galician heraldry. This work collects, as we have already said, the history and heraldry of family Cardemil so the Cardemil or they are Galician or linked in some of their branches to Galicia.

One of the most distinctive qualities of heraldry is the use of a limited palette of colours and patterns, usually referred to as tinctures. These are divided into three categories, known as metals, colours, and furs.

Next we are going to see the meanings of three tinctures:

1) OR (Gold): Nobility, Magnanimity, Wealth, Power, Light, Constancy and Wisdom.

2) PURPLE: Justice, Wit, Truth, Greatness, Wisdom and Love; those who wear this color are obliged to defend the Prince defending ecclesiastical people.

3) ARGENT (Silver): Purity, Integrity, Obedience, Firmness, Surveillance, Eloquence and Expiration.

Next lets look at the characteristics of some figures that we can find in heraldry and crests:

* ANGIO: The Chief of Angio, belonging to Italian heraldry, represents a political alliance with the Welf party (derived from Welf, Duke of Bavaria) who were loyal to the Pope.

* SEA: The Sea symbolizes a raging and wrathful spirit that does not lose, however, the limits of the obedience that it owes to its sovereign.

* CHAIN: The Chain generally means Captivity suffered by the defense of the King or the Homeland.

* PORCUPINE: The Porcupine is a symbol of Strength against danger, because it closes in on itself and defends itself with its own weapons (quills).

* HAND: The Hand symbolizes Open Generosity; if it is closed, Strength, and linked with another, Friendship.

* APPLE: The Apple Tree symbolizes the Watchful Heart.

* CHESS: Chess symbolizes Military Art, for which reason it is usually awarded to soldiers who have exposed their lives in combat.

* OLIVE: The Olive Tree is a symbol of Peace, due to the perennial green of its leaves, it also means Immutable Courage against adverse fortune.
